Premium Eyewear — Defining Quality Through Design

Eyewear is a small product with a significant role in personal expression. Subtle changes in proportion, shape and detail influence how a frame looks on the face, communicates a brand and feels to wear.
For a premium product, these decisions are fundamental. Quality is expressed through the relationship between the overall form and the smallest details: the balance of the frame, the transition into the temple arms, and the way materials and finishes complement the design.
Our work on a collection of premium women’s eyewear explores these relationships, with design leading the definition of the product and its intended experience.
The initial development focused on an aviator frame. This familiar silhouette provided a starting point for exploring a distinctive identity through wider proportions, subtle geometric lines and a hint of cat-eye styling. Refinement of the lower edge and upper bridge gave the concept a more defined character, with each adjustment considered in relation to the whole.
Designing at this scale requires close attention to proportion. A small change in angle or thickness can shift a frame’s expression, making it feel softer, bolder or more restrained. The temple arms carry that expression through to the side profile, creating continuity and providing opportunities for considered detailing.
The same care extends to the wearing experience. Frame size, material, weight and fit need to be developed together. An oversized shape may create the desired visual presence, while its profile and construction require careful resolution to support comfort and everyday use. These considerations guide the design from the outset and provide a basis for later evaluation through physical prototypes.
Sketching and visualisation allowed us to explore these decisions with the client, refining the overall direction before progressing towards detailed development. The process helped establish which elements gave the frame its character and where further refinement would have the greatest value.
For us, this is where a premium product begins: with a clear design intent and the care taken to carry it through. Material selection, engineering and manufacturing then need to support that intent, translating the concept into a consistent, well-resolved physical product.
At Form Studio, we bring these considerations together to help brands develop products with a distinctive identity and a considered user experience.
